Key Information
Day 1
Welcome to Slovakia
Meet your host in Krakow and take a scenic drive over the border into Slovakia, then on to your guesthouse in the UNESCO-protected town of Levoča. Check in, unwind and then meet up with the rest of your group for dinner and a chance to review the plan for the days ahead.
Day 2
One day, two canyons
Hiking
Head into the Slovak Paradise National Park and see for yourself why it lives up to its name. Hike along the bottom of Sucha Bela Gorge, one of the longest and most popular canyons in the park, trek through water, climb over fallen trees and ascend ladders – you'll even pass a window-like hole in the rock. Emerge from the canyon and have lunch at a mountain hut before continuing through Prielom Hornadu gorge, famous for the series of ledges and catwalks that rise above the Hornad River. Return to Levoča in time for dinner and a good night's sleep.
Day 3
Fireplace Gorge
Hiking
Head back into the park and explore Piecky (Fireplace) Gorge, which gets its name from the amazing rock formations that span the canyon. More ladders await as you climb beside multi-story waterfalls, including some horizontal ones that take you over green and blue pools of water. After hiking we head back to the town, have an early dinner before heading out to relax at the thermal pools when it's quiet and cool.
Day 4
One last hike
Hiking
Check out and venture into the National Park one last time on a hike to a stunning, 200m high rock shelf with excellent views over the entire area you’ve been exploring. Hike back down and return to Krakow in time for your flight home with new stories and photos to share with your friends.

What is the food like?
Slovakian food is fresh and hearty and staples include pork, poultry, cheese, pastry, potatoes, onions and garlic. Lentil and vegetable stews are also common, as is wild game, pasta and the dish bryndzove halušky – small potato dumplings with cheese. You'll have plenty of time to stock up on local food for lunches while out hiking.
There are also a variety of restaurants in town, including European-American fusion, pizza, pubs and Italian. It’s possible to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets on this trip, just let your host know before arrival.
What is the accommodation like?
Levoča
While hiking in the Slovak National Park, you'll stay at the Hotel U Leva – a family-run, 3-star hotel in a restored medieval building right in the heart of town. Rooms are en suite and include WiFi, satellite TV and a minibar. The hotel serves a delicious fresh breakfast each day.
Please note, select departures will stay next door at the Hotel Arkada, which is of a similar standard.
Upgrades
For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room can be booked for an extra charge, see Optional Extras. Please request this at the time of booking (this is subject to availability).
This trip has been rated as Moderate
You'll be covering 11 - 17km each day across uneven terrain, so a moderate level of fitness is needed to enjoy it to the full, however, elevation gains are modest (400 - 700m) and while the trails are complex, you'll be moving at a slow pace.
The ladders, catwalks and ledges (some of which are quite narrow) are very sturdy and secure, however, you should be comfortable with heights. Imagine climbing up to the 3rd story of a building on a ladder. If you can do that, you'll be fine and your guide will never be far away.
The Slovak Paradise National Park in summer is beautiful and relatively warm. From June to August the average daytime temperatures range from 18 - 22°C, but at night it cools down to ~8 °C. In the spring and fall it's a little chillier, ranging from 10 - 18 °C during the day and 3 - 6 °C at night. Autumn is the driest season and also boasts some beautiful colours.

Transfers
Your adventure begins at Krakow Airport (KRK) with your airport transfer at 17:00. Please schedule your flight to arrive more than 30 minutes before this time, your driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals area.
At the end of your adventure, you will be dropped back at Krakow Airport (KRK) at about 17:30. You’re free to book any flight that departs after 19:30.
Travel options
There are regular flights to Krakow from major airports across the UK and Europe.
Your group arrival and departure transfers are long (180km/approximately 3.5 hours) and include a border crossing. For this reason, private transfers are not usually offered by your host as the cost is prohibitive and you are encouraged to join the group arrival/departure transfers.
As the first and last day of your adventure are full days and the traffic between Krakow Airport and the city is usually heavy, it is not possible to be picked up or dropped off at a city hotel. However, public transport between the city and the airport is good. There is a train that leaves once or twice per hour, this takes 17minutes and is very economical.

Best time exploring a hidden gem!
Just got back from an amazing few days in stunning Slovakia. Have met fantastic people and made memories to last a lifetime. Climbing ladders, hopping over fallen trees, and navigating platforms over rivers and gorges was the best fun. We don't get to do that much as adults and this was great! Each day was different even though it was all in the same park, and it felt challenging enough without also feeling like a walk in the park. The town we stayed in was picture perfect, clean, quaint, and super cheap. Also loved the thermal baths and lake swim. Or guide Patrick was ace. Really friendly and knowledgeable and a cracking sense of humour. Would return to Slovakia in a heartbeat and can't wait to book another Much Better Adventure!!
With great hikes, come great appetites...
Such a great way to get a taste of the nature and cuisine in this part of Slovakia!
The description for the hikes is spot on; this is a beautiful national park, and exploring it through the network of trails, ladders and catwalks adds something very special to the routes. A comfortable pace gives everyone the chance to appreciate the scenery, but never felt too slow.
Levoca is a lovely and very walkable historic town, with everything needed close by. Transfers to the start of hikes were <20mins, so very little time is spent travelling to/fro each day.
Big shout-out to our guide, Patrik, for shaking up the itinerary when storms threatened our good time on day 2 and 3! Consulting with the group, his knowledge of the area and experiences in the region meant we got the most out, and we had a fantastic trip.
Lovely trip
A really super few days. Levoca is a beautiful town that I would never have found myself: lovely and quiet after a few days in Krakow. The first day of hiking was through beautiful scenery and so much fun! The ladders looks far worse than they are. Some bad weather limited our hiking on the second two days, but we managed another gorge and Patrik was proactive in thinking of fun and interesting alternatives to keep us occupied. I would be very happy to return and explore the Paradise national park more!
Amazing trip
For anyone wondering about this trip, I'd seriously recommend going. We were lucky to have a small group, and a very personal experience from start to end, a nice easy pace with no-one feeling like they weren't fit to go again the next day.
I was nervous about the heights, I'm not the best on ladders, but our guide Patrick provided reassurance, and by lunchtime of the first day, we'd made it to the top with everyone buzzing.
On our second day he altered things to make the most of our time and avoid some heavy thunder storms, thermal pools and a couple of spur of the moment changes kept us busy.
Day three had to be altered, with weather not in our favour, but Patrick again made use of our time and we did an underground cave experience which fitted in nicely with our return to Krakow and sadly the end of our trip.
Food was excellent, great recommendations, friendly hotel, and lovely UNESCO town of Levoco as our base which was amazingly quiet. Don't miss out on the bakery for snacks!
Thanks to Patrick and Much better adventures for the experience. Hope to be back in Slovakia soon
Fantastic Trip
Fantastic adventure. Beautiful country. Great friends. Our guides Patrik and Roman were key in making it extra special.
Absolutely fabulous
Roman an Patrick were really wonderful. Great company and looked after us so well. This trip was even better than expected. The beauty of the hikes, the city of levoca we stayed in, the knowledge of the tour guides. Everything exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend for anyone!
Beautiful Country
We had a fantastic trip and adventure in the Slovakian National Parks guided by Patrik and Roman. The Parks were beautiful and every corner throughout the trail provided another bit of excitement whether ladders, ledges or glorious meadow with views right across the countryside to the mountains . We had a great group which made it all the more enjoyable. Thanks MBA
Perfect few days
The perfect execution of an ideal adventure, packed into 3 days, which felt like a week. Roman & Patrik were ideal hosts, in what was a fun but physical adventure with a base in a stunning historic town.
Belfast friends and Colin the “Manager”
What a trip … great friends, exciting hikes and a wonderful experience provided by much better adventures. Our guides were Roman and Patrick and they ensured we experienced a fantastic time of ladders 😱, steep climbs and brilliant views. Hotel was perfect with clean accommodation and great food.
I cannot recommend highly enough.
Thankyou Patrik&Roman
An absolutely fabulous trip in beautiful Slovakia. Patrik and Roman were beyond amazing, full of information, skill and fun. They kept us on schedule but also allowed enough time for relaxation and enjoying the scenery. Definitely recommend 🙌
A nice intro to Slovakia
A very enjoyable trip with a lovely group of people. The hotel was good with an excellent breakfast. WiFi being a bit poor was the only minor negative. The guide made sure everyone was safe and happy throughout. The hikes were easier than expected but quite fun nonetheless. We had a real mix of sunshine and thunderstorms but this didn’t spoil anything. Heading to the thermal baths was a nice way to relax on one of the evenings.
An epic adventure Fantastic local
An epic adventure Fantastic local guide ( Roman ) Great hotel and stunning forest , great waterfalls and canyons
We had the most fantastic
We had the most fantastic weekend hiking in Slovakia National park. Our guide, Roman was amazing. He was so professional and looked after us all extremely well. We made lifetime memories and would highly recommend the trip. Carole (U.K.)
Adventure hiking in Slovakia
Thank you so much MBA and Jan for an awesome weekend in Slovakia. Brilliant hikes, full of adventure and beautiful scenery. Jan knew the area well so the car journeys were full of facts and language learning. The views were great and even when the trail was closed we still go to go an alternative that was fun.
Just fantastic
We didn't know what to expect with this being our first ever group trip and we definately made a great choice by booking with MBA. The whole experience was fantastic! Right from the speedy responses to my questions before booking and great communication running up to the trip. The trip exceeded all our expectations and we had the best time. Our guides, Jan and Roman, were absolutely amazing, we could not have wished for better. They certainly made the trip with their humour and knowledge. The obstacles throughout the gorges were so much fun and the park was just so beautiful! I cannot express how good our trip was and how much we enjoyed it. We cannot wait to book our next trip with MBA!
Great experience
The place is beautiful, we were lucky with the weather and the guides (Roman & Jan) were super careful, friendly and very relaxed. They were making sure everyone was happy and they were doing everything possible to make the trip a very good experience. The activities during the day were well planned and with a good balance between hiking, having some breaks, good food and group entertainment. Although personally I would spend more time hiking. Baths were a nice addition to the nature. Super recommend this trip and looking forward to book another one a bit more challenging from a physical point of view.
Slovakia - Hiking and Climbing Ladders!
A fantastic hiking experience for a weekend - absolutely beautiful location 😍
Thank you to the guides Jan Mako and Roman Hric for the most wonderful experience - super knowledgeable and tentative throughout the hike 🥰
And the fellow hikers thank you for your energy, laughs and kindness 🥰
Great short break
Really great adventure! Beautiful country, well organised trip our guide Patrick was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Walking was a manageable level not too strenuous, ladders and walkways are challenging in places but definitely do able. Accommodation and food were great and trips to thermal baths was a great experience
Amazing trip! Jan and Roman
Amazing trip! Jan and Roman were excellent guides - so friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. This trip way surpassed my expectations; I absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back to beautiful Slovakia!
We had the most amazing
We had the most amazing well planned hiking weekend with our hosts Tom & Peter who were very knowledgeable and gave us a wealth of information on the wonderful History of the area. The hotel was very comfortable and we had such an amazing group. The hike was challenging if your a little bit worried about heights in some areas but we all made it without issue. Couldn't recommend this hike enough and Much Better Adventures (MBA) as a tour operator. Very informative and kept everyone up to date. Will definitely be booking again soon! Loved it! So much laughing! even the Lidl stops haha!
What an amazing adventure! I
What an amazing adventure! I highly recommend this trip. Our guides Tom and Peter were so friendly & knowledgeable, from keeping us safe on the hike, to telling us all about the local area/Slovakia and being passionate about their country, to making great restaurant recommendations. We had a brilliant group on the trip too, everyone got on so well and we made good friends. Defo a 5* review for this trip. Thank you!
Knowledgable guides, beautiful scenery, and friendly group
My mum and I had a great time in Slovakia walking up the gorges and exploring the wonderful national park. The group was great and supportive. The guides were knowledgable and interesting. Slovakia was beautiful.
It’s not for the faint hearted, the high ladders and hanging steps over the rivers were great fun and really made the trip stand out from others.
Perfect for a long weekend walking and chatting to lots of friendly people.
Slovakia hiking adventure 2025
Unbelievable experience, exceeded all expectations I had. Tom and Peter our guides were incredible, knowledgeable, friendly and just all round great guys. The hotel, the food, the group were all amazing. Thanks so much, I was planning my next trip at the airport on the way home!
What a superb walking trip
What a superb walking trip we’ve just had in Slovakia which certainly exceeded all expectations!. The walks, which included ladders, bridges, ledges and chains, were sometimes challenging but we were in good hands as our guides Tom and Peter looked out for everybody, and were hugely experienced, positive, supportive and good company throughout. We got on well with every member of the group and we really enjoyed relaxing at the end of the day over delicious Slovakian food and a glass or two of wine. Another highlight was an evening visit to the local thermal baths. It was all over so quickly and we will certainly be recommending MBA and particularly Slovakia to our friends. Thank you again Tom and Peter! Peter and Nikki
Wow! What an incredible experience.
Wow! What an incredible experience. This surpassed my expectations. Tom and Peter were brilliant. I cannot speak highly enough of them both, their knowledge, skill and personable approach created the perfect trip. The group dynamic was ideal, accommodation fantastic and food at the hotel was excellent. Thank you Tom and Peter!
Fun from start to finish...
Brilliant trip with a fun and easy group of people and guides. Speed of hiking was slightly slower than I'd choose, but the variety of scenery and challenges (vertical ladders, horizontal and diagonal ones, rocks, water, bridges, side steps, chains etc) made it interesting from start to finish. Itinerary was spot on - including the trip to the thermal baths - quite an unusual experience! Tom and Peter were both top notch, competent and knowledgeable guides / hikers, who love their country and being outside in it. I was actually quite sad when we were dropped off back at the airport and we had to say goodbye.
Thanks to Peter and Patrik for the great tour. Was a great mix of hiking and adventuring exactly as described! The transport was new and clean and we were given clear instructions throughout. The thermal baths were an added bonus Beautiful country and landscapes!
I thoroughly enjoyed the Slovakia hiking adventure! Our guides, Patrik and Peter, were fantastic, we couldn't have asked for better. They were helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable. They always made sure one of them was with me when I couldn't keep up the pace with the group. They offered shorter routes as alternatives which I accepted once and they provided clear instructions and kept us well informed of what we would need and what to expect. I would totally recommend this trip!
This trip was fantastic, the guides Tom and Roman were amazing and helpful all the way. Amazing people and memories. Would love to do it again. Also great hotel and location.
Just back from Slovakia. Had the best time and the trip totally exceeded my expectations - Roman and Thomas were fabulous hosts and as a solo traveller it was easy to slot into the group!
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 124kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
- A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

The local tap water is safe to drink. Please bring along your own reusable water bottles (at least 1.5L) to fill up to avoid buying single-use plastic bottles.
You'll need to bring all your luggage with you, however on each day of hiking your main luggage can be left in the accommodation, or left with the transfer vehicle and driver depending on the day of the trip. You will only need to have a daypack for each day of hiking.
